Alignment System Update
We’ve made several changes to the Alignment System. The goal of this update is to bring it closer in spirit to the original 64-bit alignment system while addressing issues present in the current version.
We understand that some of these changes may feel awkward to long-time players — particularly:
- Red players not being able to team up with blue players from the same clan in lawful areas
- Limitations around staying peaceful in yellow tiles
The first will remain this way and will make more sense with upcoming faction wars, where yellow and blue holdings will no longer be clan-owned.
The second is a byproduct of the current PvP flagging system. Forcing neutral stance in yellow areas would effectively disable the alignment system there, so we are not pursuing that approach.
Below is a full breakdown of the updated rules.
Tile Rules Overview
Red Tiles (Lawless)
- No rules
- Full-loot, free-for-all PvP
Blue Tiles (Lawful)
- Players may remain in Peaceful stance to avoid being attacked
- Peaceful players are heavily restricted to prevent low-risk interference
Yellow Tiles (Contested)
- Players may flag Neutral to remove many peaceful restrictions
- Neutral players are open to PvP
- Players cannot assist lawless players (for example, healing red players attacking peaceful players in lawful areas)
Player Name and Icon Changes
The player icon no longer represents PvP stance.
- Green shield (varying shades): Clan members and clan allies
- Swords icon: Clan enemies
Name Color Meaning
- Red: Evil (negative alignment) or Hostile stance
- Gray: Rogue
- Yellow: Neutral stance
- Blue: Peaceful stance
Clan Color Overrides (Lawless Tiles Only)
The following colors may override stance colors in lawless tiles:
- Green: Clan member
- Dark green: Clan ally
- Yellow: Clan enemy
Clan colors are not used in lawful tiles. As far as the alignment system is concerned, your clan does not affect who you can attack or heal in lawful areas.
Rogue Status Changes
All forms of going rogue have been removed except for two:
- Entering Hostile stance (rogue until you leave it)
- Entering a lawless tile (grace period before becoming temporarily rogue)
Additional notes:
- Rogue persists until you leave the lawless tile
- Transitioning out of rogue is delayed if you are in combat
- No self-defense exceptions will be added
Rogue Penalties
Rogue does not change what you can do — it only adds penalties:
- Anyone can attack you anywhere
- Lawful players cannot help you in lawful tiles
- You drop everything on death regardless of tile color
Attack Rules
The rules for attacking another player are now:
- Evil, rogue, or hostile players can always be attacked by anyone, anywhere
- Anyone can attack anyone if the victim is in a red tile
- Neutral stance players can attack other neutral players except in NPC cities
- Peaceful (blue-name) players cannot be attacked in blue tiles
These same rules apply to attacking owned mounts.
The Gank skill now follows the same rules as normal player attacks. Peaceful players can no longer participate in neutral-versus-neutral fights in yellow tiles by ganking.
Forced Neutral Stance Locations
A grace period now exists before Peaceful stance is forcibly changed to Neutral in:
- Player villages
- Player cities
- Player city rare nodes (e.g., Selentine Mines)
- Lawless tiles
It is no longer possible to switch back to Peaceful stance while in any of the above areas.
Looting Rules
Owned Monster Graves
- Blue tiles: No one can steal loot
- Yellow tiles: Anyone except peaceful players can steal loot
- Red tiles: Anyone can steal loot
Grave ownership expiration mechanics remain unchanged.
Player Graves
- Red tiles: Anyone can loot
- Yellow and blue tiles: Peaceful players may only loot their own grave
This prevents risk-free looting by peaceful players during PvP engagements.
Boats, Mounts, and Warhulks
Blue Tiles
No one may use or unspawn another player’s owned object.
Yellow Tiles
Anyone except peaceful players may use or unspawn owned objects.
Red Tiles
Anyone may use or unspawn owned objects.
Peaceful players cannot interfere in PvP by stealing or spawning vehicles for lawless players.
Siege equipment always drops on death regardless of tile or stance.
Inventory Drop Rules (Unchanged)
Red Tiles
- All players drop all items, including paperdoll (unless marked no-drop)
Yellow Tiles
- Rogue, evil, and hostile players: Full drop
- Others: Drop inventory, keep paperdoll (except siege equipment)
Blue Tiles
- Rogue, evil, and hostile players: Full drop
- Others: Keep everything (except siege equipment)
Siege equipment always drops.
Healing and Support Rules (Unchanged)
Red Tiles
Anything goes.
Blue and Yellow Tiles (Non-Hostile Players)
- Cannot heal evil, rogue, or hostile players
- Neutral players can heal neutral and peaceful players
- Peaceful players can only heal peaceful players
- Hostile players can heal anyone
Alignment Loss (Unchanged)
The only way to lose alignment is by participating in the death of a peaceful player in a lawful tile.
- If your alignment is 0 or higher, it is set to -50
- If already negative, you lose an additional 50 alignment
Capital Area Changes
These changes prepare the world for future faction wars:
- Red Moon is now a yellow tile
- Charybdis is now a yellow tile
- Ymir’s Tear is now a yellow tile
Territory adjustments:
- Humanlands blue tiles reduced to a 3x3 area around Sanguine
- Orklands blue tiles increased to a 3x3 area around Flaming Skull
- Alfarlands blue tiles increased to a 3x3 area around Shoal
